UNIDO, SECO support Ghana to improve cocoa quality

Accra (Xinhua) The UN Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), in collaboration with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO), is set to assist deepen the quality of Ghana’s cocoa beans.

With the support of the two institutions, the Quality Control Company (QCC) of the Ghana Cocoa Board has received two global quality certificates: ISO IEC 17020 and ISO IEC 17025, for its laboratory and its inspectorate operations.

Presenting the certificates to the company, Juan Pablo Dávila Sanchez, who manages UNIDO’s global quality and standards programme in West Africa, lauded the hard work and determination from Ghana to attain the two ISO certifications.

“Although Ghana cocoa beans are recognised for their outstanding quality, these international accreditations will further strengthen the country’s position and recognition as one of the world’s leading cocoa producer,’’ Swiss Ambassador to Ghana, Philipp Stalder, said.

He said that 60 per cent of all Swiss chocolate was made from Ghanaian cocoa beans.

Stalder expressed delight that the Swiss Government, through SECO, had been able to support Ghana to improve its quality control measures.
