The Head Coach of Ikorodu U-20 Academy, Kazeem Alabi, on Wednesday said that his team was capable of reaching the final in spite of their 3-1 win over Agege Academy in the ongoing Babajide Sanwo-Olu U-20 football competition in Lagos.

The match had ended 0-0 after full time and culminated in penalties which Ikorodu gladly took successfully to their own advantage.

Alabi told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)after his team’s victory that he was delighted about the results in spite of struggling throughout the match and that their best has yet to come.

“We played well but met a tougher opposition who were playing in their home ground, but regardless of that, we won and have booked our place in the quater-finals.

“The competition is also noteworthy as it would serve as a good hunting ground for scouts for the international and local teams,” Alabi said.

His opposite number, Jubril Bello, told NAN that his team were very wasteful  at utilising their chances and regrets loosing a game that they had good dominance.

“Its a bad result for us as we could not utilise the good scoring chances we had, its a very painful loss and we just have to learn from it as we are out of the competition,” Bello said.

In other results Alimosho Local Govt defeated Surulere, 3-1 (1-1) to adavance to the quarter-finals of the competition.

NAN reports that no fewer than 20 teams are currently competing for honours in the competition organised by the APC Gubernatorial candidate for Lagos State.
