The armed robbery suspects

Three members of an armed robbery gang, who struck at Golden Heritage Estate, Mowe off the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway have been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command.

A statement by the Command’s spokesman, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, on Sunday disclosed that the men of the underworld stormed the estate at about 3pm on 25 January and attacked the security guards on duty.

“The men of Ogun State police command have successfully foiled a robbery operation at Golden Heritage Estate in Mowe Area of Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of the state. The robbers who came to the Estate at about 3pm on the 25th of January in a lorry were armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.

“They matcheted the four security guards on duty severally before tying them with ropes, after which they packed iron rods worth millions of naira into their lorry. Luck however ran against them when a distress call was made to Mowe Police Divisional headquarters, from where the DPO, CSP Francis Ebhuoma, led his anti-robbery team to the scene and engaged the robbers in gun duel.

“The team succeeded in demobilising the lorry and got two members of the gang, namely Monsuru Mukaila and Abdulahi Ogundiya, arrested while the others escaped with their weapons. Those arrested later led the policemen to where one shaeed Ishola who is said to be the gang leader was arrested. The lorry loaded with iron rod was recovered from the scene, and the injured security men have been taken to the hospital for medical attention.

“The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, commended the gallantry of his men and has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the anti-robbery section of the state criminal investigation and intelligence department, Eleweran, for further investigation. The CP also directed that the fleeing members of the gang must be brought to book.”
