A leadership caucus of the Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has petitioned the National Chairman of the party, Comrade Adams Oshiomole, to remove Governor Ibikunle Amosun as the Head of the State’s Presidential Election Council. The 13-paragraph petition was signed by the Caucus Secretary, Samuel Durojaiye and 16 other members.
Copies of the petition were also sent to the party’s National leader, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Deputy National Chairman (South) and Bankole Oluwajana, National Vice-Chairman (South West).
They explained that even though, Amosun had been given the party’s ticket to contest for a Senatorial seat in the coming election, the Governor had “consistently been working at cross-action and objectives with other leaders of the party, both at National and State levels”.
Other allegations against Amosun were:
“He refers and treat our respected leaders and our 2019 election candidates with high disdain and insolence;
“He sponsored and encouraged his loyalists within the APC to decamp to APM;
“He openly declared, as reported by the Punch Newspaper on Thursday, December 4, 2018 that he will work against the party’s Governorship candidate.
“At every opportunity, he exhibits open and surreptitious gall and bitterness against leaders of our party who he describes as fraudulent and full of deceit.
“He is encouraging the destruction of campaign posters having the photograph of our President with that of the APC Governorship Candidate across the State while that of the APM Candidate with himself and President Buhari are left untouched.
“He is using his position as Governor to sway uniformed Security Personnel to aid the activities of hired hoodlums in the destruction of campaign materials of the APC and instilling fear in the minds of our followers and supporters.”
“He publicly declared that the APC would loose the Governorship election in Ogun.”
They demanded that, “In view of the open declaration of war on Ogun State APC as well as the blatant destruction of all APC Candidates’ posters, we on behalf of our loyal party members have lost confidence in the Governor and do not trust his sincerity to head the Presidential Election Council in Ogun State.”
Reacting to the allegations, the Publicity Secretary of the dissolved party’s Executive, Wole Elegbede, said since the allegations were against the Governor, he had no authority to speak on his behalf, “But the authentic APC State Executive Committee in Ogun under the leadership of Chief Derin Adebiyi is not surprised about the petition. The allegations are not new.
“I believe the petitioners are merely trying to draw attention to themselves which is the stock-in-trade of professional petition writers. They are noise makers.
“Are they truly politicians? If they are, they won’t be concerned with trivialities at a time that our great party is faced with the challenges of returning to power at the Federal level and in Ogun State.
“The Adebiyi led Exco is the only duly elected Exco of APC in Ogun State. Any other body or group outside this Exco is contrary to the constitution of APC and as such, can not write petition on behalf of Ogun State Chapter of APC.”
