The Ogun State chapter of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria on Wednesday gave conditions to support “Operation Amotekun”, a security outfit set up by the States of the SouthWest region of Nigeria.
The establishment of Operation Amotekun by the SouthWest States of Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, Lagos and Ekiti has been generating controversies across the country.
The Minister of Justice and Attorney General of the Federal (AGF), Abubakar Malami had last week declared Operation Amotekun illegal, a pronouncement that had received backlash from various sections of the society, especially the SouthWest region.
But the Chairman of the Ogun State chapter of Miyetti Allah, Alhaji Abdulmumini Ibraheem in his reaction to the establishment of Amotekun, insisted that his association would only support Amotekun if members of other tribes living the the SouthWest region are involved.
Ibraheem spoke to Uhuru Times in an exclusive interview, said Amotekun must not be tribalised nor be used to victimise other ethnic groups living in the SouthWest States.
Ibraheem who lauded the initiative, noted that the Fulanis are peace loving people who are always in support of anything that would ensure the safety of lives and property.
In Ibraheem’s view, the people in charge of Amotekun must be holistic in their approach and consider other ethnic groups in the composition of Amotekun.
His words, “We (Miyetti Allah) are in support of everything that will ensure the security of lives and property. But it (Amotekun) must not be tribalised. Every member of the other ethnic groups living in the SouthWest region should be carried along.”
Members of other tribes who are willing to join Amotekun should be encouraged to join. The security outfit should be free from the influence of selfish politicians. It should be free from partiality.”
“If Yorubas are the only ones allowed to join Amotekun, it could portend danger to members of other tribes living in the region.”
“If the people in charge can follow these conditions, I will lead our members to join Amotekun and we will support it with everything we have.”, Ibraheem added.
