The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Kaduna/Katsina Command raked in N997.4 million from 311 seizures in 2013 along with import duties paid in the area. The Command’s Area Controller, Alhaji Yerima Abubakar, disclosed this on Wednesday in Katsina during a press briefing.
He said that items were seized by the customs anti-smuggling patrol teams operating on border areas in Katsina state during the period under review. Abubakar said that the seized items included bags of rice, cartons of spaghetti, jerry cans of vegetable oil, cars, motorcycles, cartons of prohibited drugs, among others; the smuggled drugs have already been destroyed.
The controller explained that the customs have so far made 15 seizures in January, 2014; the seizures have a Duty Paid Value of N10.1 million. He also said that the command has generated N4.9 billion as revenue, and remitted it into the Federation Account during the period under review.
According tom him, the customs have also collected N437.7 million only in January, 2014.
He said that his men are ready to assist people to carry out their legitimate trade in accordance with the international trade laws.
The controller, therefore, urged businessmen particularly those operating within the area to avail themselves to the services of Inland Container Nigeria Limited in Kaduna for clearing their consignments into the country.
