Muslim faithful in Enugu state attended the Eid-el-Kabir prayers on Sunday at 82 Division of the Nigerian Army Eid Prayer Ground amidst tight security.
Both worshippers and vehicles were subjected to thorough screening at the entrance to the prayer ground.
In a sermon, the Chief Imam of the division, Lt.-Col. Muhammad Auwal, urged the Muslim faithful to share love to others and live in peace with their neighbours.
Auwal, who was represented by Sgt. Muhammad Abdulkareem, said the celebration was about sharing and contributing to the welfare of others.
He also urged them to continue to make sacrifice for the betterment of the nation as exemplified by Prophet Ibrahim in the Holy Quran.
“Our lives must reflect sacrifice and the sacrifice is meant to better our society and neighbourhood. Today and onward, you must strive to be your brothers’ keeper and share what you have with others to propagate love and oneness,’’ he said.
The chief imam also urged the faithful to be fervent in prayer for peace and security of the country.
The cleric further prayed for peace, progress and unity in the country as well as Allah’s guidance for the nation’s leaders.
“Let us continue to pray for Allah’s grace and guidance for President Muhammadu Buhari and other leaders in the country,’’ he said.
