Mai-suya docked for defiling under-aged girls in Lagos

courtA 40-year-old Suya vendor, Abubakar Bala, was on Tuesday charged with defiling two underage girls at an Igbosere Magistrates Court in Lagos.
Bala an indigene of Sokoto State who resides at 10, Ahmed Tinubu Road, Bogije area of Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos is facing a charge of defilement of a child.
The police prosecutor, Cpl. Babaji Ishaku, told the court that the accused committed the offence at 2p.m on May 15 at Baba Adisa village, Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.
He said Bala had unlawful carnal knowledge of two 10-year-old minors (names withheld) on various occasions. The prosecutor said the accused threatened his victims with a knife during the assaults and told them he will kill them if they should inform their parents.
According to the prosecution, the offence contravened Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2011. Section 137 states that “any person who has sexual intercourse with a child is guilty of a felony and liable to life imprisonment.”
The accused, however, denied the charge. The Magistrate, Miss Mulikat Ali – Balogun granted the accused bail in the sum of N3million with two sureties in like sum. Ali-Balogun adjourned the case to June 13 for mention.
