Ilorin (NAN) Kwara United Football Club of Ilorin on Sunday at the State Stadium Complex warded off desperate onslaughts by FC Taraba of Jalingo to win 1-0.

The Match Day 36 Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) fixture saw the visitors dictating the pace of the game in the early stages.

But Kwara United held on well, until they scored in the 22nd minute.

Defender Moronfade Adebayo sent a long pass for John Chukwudi to outrun the visitors’ Njoku Kelvin to head home the only goal of the game.

FC Taraba looked the home side for most parts of the game thereafter as they showed more aggression and looked more dangerous on the ball than their hosts.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the win was the first for Kwara United in their last four games.

They had lost 1-2 to Lobi Stars in Makurdi, drew 1-1 with Bayelsa United in Ilorin and lost 0-1 to Enyimba in Aba on Wednesday.

They will now travel to Port Harcourt to face another relegation-battling side, Sharks FC, in a make-or-mar battle on Sunday for Match Day 37.
