Pandemonium reigned supreme at the All Progressives Congress (APC) local government secretariat, Ogba, Lagos on Tuesday as aggrieved party members resisted alleged attempts to impose a chairmanship candidate towards the local government election in Lagos State schedule for June.
Our correspondent, who was at the scene, barely escaped being injured as chairs and other items were freely used to attack alleged agents of leaders bent on imposing the candidate. A few party members sustained injuries, with others scampering for safety.
Policemen from Area G, Ogba, were later drafted to the scene to stop the violence.
Efforts to speak with the LG party chairman, Hon. Kelvin Ajakaye did not yield much fruit, as he insisted that he could only speak with journalists after due clearance from the state Chairman of APC, Otunba Henry Ajomale. However, Ajomale’s mobile telephone number remained unreachable.
A member, who does not want his name in print, said, “They have started what led to the loss of some local governments in the 2015 elections, because they do not want primary. We want members to freely elect whoever should represent them at the local government, but they don’t want popular people; they want to impose their preferred candidates. And, we will not agree to this evil plan.”
