Herbal drink, Zakami, kills 6 youths in Kano

No fewer than six persons were feared dead after allegedly consuming a local intoxicant beverage (Zakami), during a wedding party at Unguwa Uku, in Kano metropolis.
An eye witness on Monday said that the incident happened around 10.30p.m. on Sunday, March 30.
According to the witness, the deceased, all males, drank the substance during the party which was attended by many youths including the bride and the groom, Hafsat Ibrahim and Tijjani Usman respectively.
The deceased who died on the way to the hospital and age between 20 and 22 years, had earlier collapsed after taking the intoxicant beverage.
The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Police Command, ASP Magaji Majiya confirmed the incident. He said the police had since commenced investigation into the matter with a view to finding out the cause of the incident.
“On receiving the report, we invited the groom and he is currently assisting us in our investigation. I cannot confirm the number of the deaths until we finish our investigation’’, he said.
