Lagos (NAN) Serving and retired police officers, other notable personalities, friends and family members of the late Rivers Commissioner of Police, Mr Francis Bolaji Odesanya, gathered on Wednesday night to pay tribute to him.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that officers and men of the Nigeria Police from Zone 2, Lagos, were among those who gathered at Yaba, Lagos, to give honour to Odesanya, who died on Jan. 31 during a brief illness.
He was aged 56.
The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Mr Leye Oyebade, described the deceased as a fine police officer, trusted friend and brother.
”We have been together for over 35 years. We joined the Nigeria Police Force the same day. He was a kind-hearted person who served with diligence.
”He was a humble and God fearing person,” Oyebade said.
Odesanya’s course mate at the police academy, ACP Austine Orion, said that the deceased was amiable, gentle and dependable.
The eldest sister of the deceased, Mrs Mary Olutoyin, described him as one of the best human beings.
Olutoyin said that the late police commissioner, although the last of six children, was the family’s pride.
”Bobo is what we called my brother. He was a fine man that everybody wanted to associate with.
”Juliet, his wife, should not fear. The Odesanya Family is behind her. Bolaji (the deceased) has gone to rest,” she said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that six lessons from different chapters of the Bible were read by friends, family and church members at the night of tribute.
The choir of St. Dominic Catholic Church, Yaba, Lagos, performed at the event.
