The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) has expressed the view that the public appeal to Nigerians by the Minister of Information, Lai Muhammed to pardon President Muhammad Buhari over his missing school certificate would strengthen the chances of its Presidential candidate, Abubakar Atiku at the Presidential Election Tribunal.

The group insisted that the “embarrassing” disclosure by the Minister further confirmed the opposition’s long-held and proven belief that President Buhari’s administration is built on nothing but lies, empty ideas and fraudulent foundation.

The Coalition spokesman, Ikenga Imo Ugochinyere in a statement made available to Uhuru Times on Saturday, stated that “Lai Muhammed’s appeal for pardon for Buhari over his missing certificate had strengthened Atiku’s case with his confirmation that Buhari was not qualified for the election.

The statement reads, “CUPP wishes to bring to the attention of all well-meaning Nigerians and friends of the nation to recent events in the polity that have further confirmed the opposition’s long-held and proven belief that President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration is built on nothing else but lies, empty ideas and fraudulent foundation.

“And like we have always been saying that the Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, is the chief purveyor of fake news, the two events we are calling stakeholders’ attention to emanate from the table of this same government megaphone.

“First, in a video that is currently trending, Mohammed claimed in a television interview that Buhari lost his certificate and that he should be pardoned if he cannot produce the said certificate after many years of leaving school.

“In reacting to the video, the ministry has not denied what Mohammed said in the interview. It only claimed that the video was an interview the minister granted the television station since January 22, 2015 when he was still the spokesman of the ruling party.

“Whether Mohammed granted the interview now or in 2015 as claimed, he has not denied the fact that he admitted in the interview that Buhari should be pardoned because he cannot produce his certificate.

“This very clear admission is very instructive because Buhari and his handlers had produced some questionable documents as his WAEC certificate.

“This government must apologise to Nigerians for feeding them with lies and deceit. Clearly, the only way to do this is for Buhari to relinquish the stolen mandate he is enjoying since it is now clear that he has no certificate, hence ineligible to contest for the position he is currently holding dubiously,” Ugochinyere stated.

Similarly, the group has also condemned the Minister’s position on the alleged bomb explosion at the South African High Commission in Abuja, which news went viral on social media. CUPP emphasized the position of government, attributing the explosion news dissemination to the opposition “is a useless propaganda.”

“We make bold to say that this is the most unfortunate statement that could have emanated from a spokesman of a government that claims to be high in integrity.

“This frivolous statement only reminded us of earlier statement by this same government accusing opposition parties of sponsoring Boko Haram, which turned out to be false.

“This statement is baseless and useless. We therefore dare the minister and the government he serves to arrest those members of the opposition if he has facts that they are behind the news or he keeps his mouth shut.

“We know that with the judgement day of the Presidential Election Petition Tribunal drawing closer, this administration has entered panic mode. We pity Mohammed and his principal because we know that all these antics are meant to intimidate members from nullyfying Buhari’s election over his ineligibility.

“We therefore strongly warn Mohammed and his co-travellers not to further push this country into instability with their unfounded and uncouth utterances and allegations.”
