A Federal High Court in Abuja on Friday discharged and acquitted former Speaker, House of Representatives, Hon. Dimeji Bankole, on corruption charges brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court found there was no evidence linking the former Speaker with the financial malfeasance alleged against him, thus setting him free. But a visibly stunned Bankole, seated in the witness box, began to shed tears after listening to the judgment.
He mumbled incoherently for some time before his aides moved closer urging him to calm down and leave the box. Afterwards, a smiling Bankole surrounded by aides and well-wishers turned down requests to for comments saying, “not now, I’ll talk later.”
