Forty eight hours after the assassination of radical anti-Boko Haram Muslim cleric, Sheikh Muhammed Auwal Adam Albani, a tepid response from the Federal Government deplored his killing in a statement by Malam umar Sani, spokesman to Vice President Namadi Sambo.
Albani was killed along with his wife and a young son on Saturday in Zaria, Kaduna State by gunmen believed to be members of Boko Haram. The slain cleric belonged to a small circle of Islamic preachers, who regularly criticize the activities of Boko Haram and sought to dissuade young Muslims from joining the group.
The statement from the vice president’s off ice said, “It is with a deep sense of shock and sadness that the Vice President, Arc Mohammed Namadi Sambo received the sudden and tragic demise of Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Adam Albani and some members of his family.
“The Vice President condemns in the strongest terms these senseless killings of innocent lives by mindless assassins who have no regard for the sanctity of human life. Arc Sambo commiserates with the family of the deceased over this sorrowful and great loss.
“He implores members of the family of the deceased, his students and indeed the entire Ummah to have the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss and prays Almighty Allah to grant the soul of the departed Aljannat firdaus.”
