Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 47-year-old man, Tosin Awotedo, for raping a girl of 10 years in Igbeba, Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.

Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, Prince Muyiwa Adejobi, a deputy superintendent of police disclosed in a statement that, “Awotedo had carnal knowledge of the young girl, who hawks fufu, in his Igbeba apartment for more than four times before he was finally arrested by the police after her mother, who was alerted by neighbours of the recurrent misdeeds of the suspect, reported to the police.
When the suspect was interrogated by the Divisional Police Officer, Igbeba, Chief Superintendent of Police Halilu Muahawiya, he claimed to be a journalist, but was later discovered to be a fake journalist.

The victim has been taken to the hospital for medical examination and a case of defilement  has been established against the suspect who will soon be brought to the state CID Eleweran Abeokuta for prosecution.

In another development, an anti crime patrol attached to Onipanu Division in Otta Ogun State  on Wednesday engaged some armed men in a gun battle which led to the death of one of the robbers while others escaped with bullet wounds in Ilasa Road, Iyesi Area.

The victim of the robbery said the robbers trailed him from a bank where he withdrew a sum of N100,000 and robbed him at gun point in his Iyesi Ota residence.

The police detectives who responded swiftly to a distress call from his neighbours, gave the robbers a hot chase before the gun battle ensued between the police and the robbers.

One browning pistol with its ammunition and a sum of 65,000(sixty five thousand naira) were recovered from the dead robber.
