The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 23-year old man, Adeoye Ikugbayigbe for allegedly beheading a 72-year old woman, Funmilayo Shada.
The incident, according to the Command’s spokesman, Abimbola Oyeyemi occurred on Friday, March 17 at Abigi, Ogun waterside Local government area of the State.
According to Oyeyemi, the suspect was arrested following a report by the son of the deceased, Ekundayo Shada at the Abigi Divisional Police Headquarters, Ogun Waterside Local Government Area.
Shada who said he was on his way to the farm on the day of the incident to meet his mother who had earlier gone to the farm, added that he met the suspect on the road holding a polythene bag.
“But as soon as I saw him (Ikugbayigbe), he dropped the bag and ran into the bush. This roused my suspicion and I quickly ran to check my mother but I could not find her.”
“I later came back to check the bag Ikugbayigbe dropped only for me to discover my mother’s severed head and her wrist in the bag.”
“I quickly reported the case to the Police and immediately the dispatched a team of detectives to the scene, combed the surrounding bush and got the suspect arrested,” Shada said.
Oyeyemi disclosed that on interrogation, the suspect confessed to committing the crime, claiming that he had been having a running dispute with the deceased over a portion of land.
Oyeyemi added that, the severed head and the remains body of the deceased had been deposited in the mortuary while the cutlass he used had also been recovered.
The Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu had ordered that the suspect be transferred to Homicide Section of State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for further investigation.
