The Kwara State Government will on Tuesday flag off an Agriculture loan scheme of N215 million to 172 farmers across the 16 local government areas of the state.
The State Commissioner for Information and Communication, Mr Tunji Moronfoye, disclosed this on Monday in Ilorin during an interview with the newsmen.
According to him, the loan would be disbursed symbolically, saying that the loan would be accessed through Apex and Kwara Micro-Finance banks via Union bank.
Moronfoye added that the farmers were expected to concentrate on rice, soyabeans, cassava and maize, adding that all farmers are duly inspected and ready to start planting. He explained further that this was continuation of Agricultural policy of the past administration of Senator Bukola Saraki to develop the agricultural sector and serve as a source of income to the people of the state.
Speaking on health, the commissioner announced that a sum of N651 million had been budgeted as counterpart funds for the National Agency for Control of Aids to fight HIV/AIDs in the state.
The Commissioner added that another 57 million naira had also been budgeted through the Kwara Action Committee on Aids (KWASACA) for the protection and control of HIV/AIDs.
He noted that a Centre would be established in Baruteen where there is higher prevalence ratio of the disease due to its closeness to the boarder.
Answering questions on sports, Prince Moronfoye assured that the state government would continue to intensify efforts at repositioning the sports sector and embark on talent hunt at the grassroots to discover new sportsmen and women.
